Musee du Vieil Aix
1. 26. 2008. Saturday.
The first Saturday after coming to Aix, I decided to go to the Musee du Vieil Aix.
The museum is super close to the IEP where I take my econ class and is right in front of the Vietnamese take-out place where there is always a massive line of people getting food ( you have to prepare yourself to at least wait for an hour for food. insane, but really good food! )
The musee is housed in an old 3-story mansion. The first two floors are the actual museum part.
There was a temporary special exhibition going on that was really interesting.
It was about the last tonnelier, Louis Mougin, of Aix. There was a 20 minutes video of M. Louis Mougin making his last barrel (around age 85, I think.) that was very very interesting. It's sad that there is no one to follow in his foot steps.
At the museum, they had some of the barrels and other wooden items that he had made during his life in addition to the tools that he once used. There was a keg type thing that reminded me of man hall and Olek. So of course, I had to take a picture of it :)
There were several old maps of Aix on display too. Since Dan loves maps, I took a few shots :) Look how catholic this tiny place is!
The museum has a pretty big puppet collection from the Provence area. Half of the entire first floor is all about puppets. Some of them were very delicate and pretty! Some were...kinda scary looking..
(sort of) cute dolls:
Interesting piece of furniture. It was actually really nice in person, but the color just looks weird in this photo. The floor was beautiful too, but the color is a little off. *sad face*
The ceiling was soooo beautiful and cute and not too big/overwhelming. I really liked it a lot!
The museum trip was interesting and fun.
I wish they had more about the history of Aix so that I could learn more about the city. I also wish they labeled more things. Some stuff I wouldn't really know what it was/meant because it wasn't labeled.
But I definitely saw a lot of old dolls and china from Aix/Provence! hehe :D

I like the entryway of the museum with the stairs and the painting hanging above.
