What happened in Paris... Week 1

I left Boston on 1/8 for Paris. Saying goodbyes to my friends and family was pretty sad. I'm actually still sad and lonely, missing everyone I love :(

It didn't help on the plane ride to France either. As much as I LOVE and ADORE babies, there was this freaking baby sitting right behind my row crying for the ENTIRE first half of the ride. And then for the second half when the baby shushed, I still couldn't fall asleep :( On Air France they have cute little wine bottles for one person to drink, I chugged that, but still couldn't sleep. Not fun.

SO I arrive at the Citadines (Saint-Germain-des-Pres, amazing location btw!)around 9 am and PASSED OUT. (so no walking around Paris my first day. Bummer.)

In the next two days, I kind of sort of regained energy and began exploring Paris--the city of amour.

On 1/10, I went to visit the Musee d'Orsay! It was amazing. I was too lazy to take pictures though. lol. But I promise myself to visit again. I really liked the guide at the museum. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything super well. That was hot.

*For those of you interested in Visiting, it is free every Thursday evenings from 6 pm if you are under 25, and is also free the first Sunday of the month.

On 1/11, I went to Le Louvre. AMAZING and way too big. I wish it didn't rain, but oh well, what can I do about that.. I would need a month to enjoy this place. I did get to see (and by see, I also mean walk by) most of the collection, but didn't have enough time to see all of the sculptures. Some of my favorite stuff were:

*Appartements Napoleon-III: beautiful furniture and lavish interior design.

*Temporary Exhibition:

Cute furniture! Some of my favorites.

*Some jewels that probably belonged to me in my past life. *smile*

*Clockwise:

Victoire de Samothrace, Les Noces de Cana (Veronese),
Venus de Milo,
and the FAMOUS but TINY La Joconde (Mona Lisa)

*My favorite painting at the Louvre:

La Jeune Martyre
(The Young Martyr), 1855
by Paul Delaroche

*much beautiful in person :(

*Shots of Le Louvre and some touristy pictures :D

*The Louvre is free (usaully 9 euros) every Friday evenings from 6 pm if you are under 25 years old.

After my first visit to the Louvre, the Wellesley group went to the Comedie Francaise to "Les Fables de La Fontaine."
At this point, I was way too tired and was pretty much asleep for half of the show :/ I was trying really hard to keep myself awake, but just couldn't do it. The show itself was amazing. Very French, too. I loved the costumes and the performance. Hate how I slept through half of it.

I know this sounds totally crazy too, but I am convinced that I saw a ghost at the Comedie Francaise. I wasn't dreaming. I really saw an old man spirit... :/ Bizarre.

On Saturday 1/12, I went to Versailles with the ladies. We had to take the RER to Versaille and had a tiny bit of trouble figuring out which train to take. It took about 40 minutes to get to from St. Michel and cost about 4 Euros round trip in addition to the weekly metro pass that Mme. Gillain gave us.

Once we got to Versailles,It was too cold to walk around the garden (something I must do in the spring!) but it was very beautiful in and out. Too bad part of it was under construction :( Hopefully in the spring, it'll all be done!

*La Galerie des Glaces

*Again, a must-see in person!

Pure insanity! Look at all the gold!
No wonder people chopped off Louis XVI head..
I would have been pissed to if my King was living like that taxing the shiz out of me.

*Les Jardins and an old couple :D

The old couple really really reminded me of my mom and dad. And then I missed them :(
What I really want to do in the spring:
Have a mini-picnic in the gardens here!
That will be so cute, fun, and romantic!
It'll be amazing to just sit under the sun and chill. Can't wait!

**Coming Soon: The Eiffel Tower and other Paris-stuff.

***My motivation: Miss Elizabeth Kwon. Enough said.
